Blunkett in US talks
The two men have discussed intelligence-sharing between Britain and America and stocks of vaccines against chemical and biological agents during the meeting in Washington.
They also considered the threat from cyber-terrorism and border and transportation security.
The Home Secretary said he had shared the lessons learnt from dealing with the IRA with his US counterpart, saying Britain had more than 30 years of experience of dealing with mainland terrorism.
He said that there is already an unprecedented level of co-operation between the two countries.
Mr Blunkett is also due to visit Baltimore where he will tour innovative community-based anti-crime and anti-drugs programmes.
He will travel to New York for talks with the city's Mayor Mike Bloomberg and Police Commissioner Ray Kelly about terrorism and community justice initiatives.
He will also take part in a wreath-laying ceremony at Ground Zero.
The Home Secretary is on a three-day visit to America.
Yesterday he signed a new extradition treaty with US Attorney General John Ashcroft aimed at expanding law enforcement co-operation and adding new powers in the war against terrorism.
