WELLINGTON - New Zealand police issued a warning on Monday about a global gold credit card scam being run from an Internet website in China.
<br><br>
People targetted are asked to fill in an application form and send a fee of five New Zealand dollars after which they receive a global gold card in the mail, apparently dispatched from an address in Auckland.
<br><br>
They are then encouraged to transfer 210 US dollars or more into the card account, said police electronic crime national manager Maarten Kleintjes.
<br><br>
“Once the person tries to use the gold card at an ATM, the card does not work,” he said. “If they contact the card administrators, they are told their money has been donated to charity.”
<br><br>
Kleintjes advised people to have nothing to do with the scam which is run from a website called www.global-goldcard.com.
