Cyber Crime Europe's telecommunication ministers are set to agree a new European agency for information security on Thursday.
At the Council meeting in Brussels, member state governments are expected to forge a political agreement on an agency for Network and Information Security, designed to combat EU cyber crime.
With a budget of just over ˆ24 million from January 2004 to the end of 2008, the agency will provide network and information security for businesses, citizens, consumers and public sector organisations.

It will be provisionally based in Brussels, and the management board will consist of one representative from each member state.

Other items on the agenda include a new programme for developing pan-European eGovernment services.

Ministers will also discuss transitions from analogue to digital broadcasting, eliminating barriers to access new services provided by open platforms in digital television or third generation mobile communications.
