NYPD Selects Lancope to Protect Criminal Research and Computer Crimes Investigation Unit^; StealthWatch to Provide Advanced Security and Network Intelligence

ATLANTA - Lancope, Inc., the leading provider of Advanced Threat Protection solutions, today announced that the New York City Police Department (NYPD) has selected StealthWatch(TM) to provide comprehensive security protection for its Criminal Research and Computer Crimes Investigation unit.

Criminal Research and Computer Crimes Investigation unit will rely on StealthWatch, the innovative behavior-based Intrusion Detection System (IDS), to rapidly identify, prioritize and respond to malicious network and host behavior by dynamically detecting deviations from normal traffic patterns and acceptable security policies. StealthWatch enables policy enforcement and delivers real time network intelligence for effective and manageable security across the enterprise.

"StealthWatch plays a vital role for the NYPD in protecting the safety of the nation, state, city and its citizens," said Harland LaVigne, president and CEO of Lancope. "We are proud to support New York's finest in ensuring the security of its network and protecting against cyber crime."

The Criminal Research and Computer Crimes Investigation unit is a sub-division of the NYPD, the nation's largest police department. Its primary mission is to identify and investigate cases of computer related crimes for the NYPD's 76 patrol precincts and 40,000 officers. The Criminal Research and Computer Crimes Investigation also coordinates efforts with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies, such as the Department of Justice.

According to the NYPD, "Computer related crimes are an expanding area for the criminal element." The seventh annual "Computer Crime and Security Survey" issued by the FBI and the Computer Security Institute proves that financial losses from cyber crimes are increasing dramatically, up to $455.8 million in 2002 compared to $378 million in 2001 and $265 million in 2000.

"After evaluating several network security products, the NYPD selected StealthWatch for its ability to provide easy-to-manage, comprehensive security at both the network and host level," said LaVigne. "They were particularly impressed with StealthWatch's real time network intelligence that enables insightful forensic analysis and zero-hour identification of internal and external unknown attacks that can result in loss of network services and sensitive information."

LaVigne added, "As network attacks continue to rise in complexity and sophistication, today's organizations require increasingly intelligent technology that protects without sacrificing network performance. StealthWatch uniquely answers this market need for NYPD and over 50 other customers."
