The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs has announced cybercrime increase inside the country.
While approximately 15,000 such crimes were recorded last year, in the first half of 2006 their number reached 8,400. According to the ministry, two thirds of offences in IT area involve information theft and unauthorized access to confidential data. Statistics show that almost 43 percent of computer criminals' victims are online auction participants.
Instead of acting independently, today's hackers prefer working inside an organized group, conducting spot attacks. The penal code includes the 28th chapter about liability for high-tech-related crimes and articles on child pornography distribution.
