David C. Kanouse, 30, of Waukesha, was volunteering to help coach a youth football team. Kanouse was at the league?s first practice of the season Monday but has not been back since, said Ted Schneider, president of Waukesha Youth Football. Kanouse is charged with one count of possession of child pornography.
Investigators raided Kanouse?s downtown apartment Wednesday after an informant provided new information about a possible 1997 child molestation incident. Kanouse was investigated for allegedly sexually assaulting a developmentally disabled 14-year-old boy, but prosecutors declined to file charges without stronger supporting evidence, according to court records.
The league is planning to put together a brochure to hand out to parents Monday, reassuring them of the precautions they take with their coaches, Schneider said. "We try to do everything we can to weed out these kind of individuals," Schneider said. "For the most part, we know who all our coaches are."
Investigators returned to the apartment Thursday afternoon and seized bedding and pillows after Kanouse revealed details suggesting an improper relationship with a 13-year-old boy, court records said.
