Watsonville police have contacted the FBI after receiving a report of a person who was almost the victim of Internet fraud.
Police reported the would-be victim responded to an e-mail that told him he was a winner in a lottery and asked him to forward a $4,000 money order to an address in Canada. Police said that after the man sent the money order, he learned the lottery was a scam and quickly canceled the money order before it reached its destination.
According to Watsonville police, citizens who feel they have been victims of Internet fraud may file a complaint with the FBI and the National White Collar Crime Center at http://www.ic3.gov.
"If lottery winnings seem too good to be true, they probably are,'' Watsonville police said in a written statement.
