Its not McKinnon's Aspurgers problem and after all I have seen it stated that 48% of IT security professionals probably suffer from it!
It is the incredible stupidity of the IT Professionals that allowed it to happen.
Two years ago I helped to defend a site that was under very heavy attack from sites outside USA and the EEC.
When we identified the source of an attack we "took the buggers down."
McKinnon was only using a PC from his bedroom. It would hev been so easy when they had found out where the attack was from to fdisk him, and to avoid legal problems it could have been donne by annonysers in India and Finland.. Cost..very little. Cost of Trial and appeals 100s of thousands
With any attack yoou 1/ Identify the attacker, and 2/ trash his computer and finally 3/ Via anonymisers warn him that further attacks would be very dangerous to his health!
