A man appeared in court on international computer crime charges today following a major investigation by UK police and the United States Secret Service.
Matthew Anderson, 27, appeared in private at Elgin Sheriff Court in connection with a number of charges under the Computer Misuse Act 1990.
Anderson, of Drummuir, near Dufftown, Moray, made no plea and was released on bail.
Police said he was arrested on Friday amid an investigation into an attempt to extort a “significant quantity of money” from around the world.
The joint inquiry, known as Operation Casper, is being led by US Secret Service agents and their Scottish counterparts.
