The number of people charged in the child pornography ring that a Streator resident allegedly is part of increased to an even dozen after a Kansas City man was charged earlier this week.
Kurt Sandvig, 42, of Kansas City, Mo., is the latest man to be charged in connection to the nationwide child pornography ring that the Federal Bureau of Investigations says was based in Beaver Dam, Wis.
Charles A. Burt III, 55, of 902 Painter St., is one of the 12 men charged in the case. He is accused of manufacturing child pornography, a felony offense for which he faces 15-20 years in prison if convicted.
Sandvig is accused of teaming up with 32-year-old Beaver Dam resident and alleged ringleader William Martin to take boys to a hotel where they allegedly photographed the children performing sexual acts.
In addition to Burt, Sandvig and Martin, the following people also are charged in the case:
Robert Hornyak, 58, of Milwaukee, Wis., is charged with repeatedly sexually assaulting an 11-year-old boy. He allegedly videotaped the assaults and traded the images with a Detroit man who had also traded similar images with Martin.
Joel Kline, 41, of Beaver Dam, is accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting a 9-year-old boy.
James Gotfryd, 39, of Flint, Mich., is accused of distributing child porn over the Internet.
Police officer and former substitute teacher Adam James Brown, 31, of Riverside, Calif., is charged with traveling with the intent to engage in a sex act with a juvenile. He's accused of supplying mothers in the Beaver Dam area with drugs and using their children in child porn videos.
Tim Dirk, 37, of Sheboygan, Wis., is charged with sexually assaulting several children.
Guy R. Lendrum, 32, of Independence Township, Mich. (about 45 miles northwest of Detroit), is accused of molesting his own two children as well as several neighbor children.
Brian S. Urbanawiz, 30, of Midland, Mich., has pleaded no contest to three counts of child sexually abusive activity and three counts of using a computer to convey child sexually abusive activity. He is scheduled to be sentenced March 12.
