Online coupons can be a convenient way to cut costs, but experts warn about potential fraud.

NBC 5 reported that crooks sometimes create counterfeit coupons with very high values, and then sell them on the Internet.

However, consumers who pay for the tempting deals find out at the register that the coupons are bogus, NBC 5 reported.

Connie Yates of Tom Thumb said that consumer should be wary of buying coupons.

Experts advise consumers to avoid schemes by patronizing only authorized coupon Web sites.
