Cybercrime on rise as Internet users grow

Date: August 26, 2007

Cyber criminals are having a field day as more and more people begin to use the Internet for day-to-day transactions.

So beware, if one sees an e-mail from the bank asking you to reveal important information who knows you might just be the next target of a highly sophisticated Internet fraud called Phishing.

Phishing is a type of internet fraud where cyber criminals hack into the database of banks and send emails to their clients asking for personal information and using it to siphon off money from people's bank accounts.

Such mails often include official-looking logos lifted from genuine websites.
