Funny, I went to school with her too. Although I do not remember the 3B nickname I have to say if we had had the internet back then I could totally see her doing something like this!

A friend of mine has told me that she was known as "3B" or "Big Bitch Bess" in high school. Apparently her reputation in high school holds true today.

I'm just curious.....I knew a Bess Carney in high school. I did a Google search and found all these articles on this strange crime she committed...I'm not sure if it's the same Bess Carney I knew.... Any idea Where she grew up and went to school?

I'll speak on behalf of "Lynn". The Burlington Free Press did a brief write-up last week, and the story was on WCAX and WPTZ news last Friday night. Bess has apparently written letters of apology - but those remain to be seen. Word on the street is that she is still trying to keep the lie alive at KSV... WHERE SHE IS STILL EMPLOYED!! Kinda funny that an admitted identity thief is employed doing competitive research for KSV's clients. I assume most don't know that she is involved in her account behind the scenes. Kinda scary. I'm another "ex-friend" -- and I can say that the other ex-friends that I know just want her to get the hell out of town. This town is just too small for all the hurt that she caused.

Hey "Lynn":-) Thanks for the update. A lot of us curious (nosey) and waiting to hear the outcome. We know firsthand what this has done to her family, emotionally and financially. :-( Sadly, she's taken no ownership at all that we know of.
Did Bess finally admit to ANY guilt? Have not seen anything in Burlington Free Press, or local VT. news? Has anything been officially noted in the media?

FYI, The crazy lady who stalked herself was sentenced on Wed. May 3rd with 2 misdemeanors. She has to write letters of apologies to the victims and the Burlington Police Department. She must perform 100 hours of community service and therapy. Hopefully now Bess will take responsibility as she has to report to a probation officer and a reparative board for the next year. Hopefully after meeting these conditions she will be able to reintegrate back into society. The most disturbing thing about this case is that she has lied to her friends and family for 10 months while showing no remorse.

i know all parties involved. worked at ksv. sat next to bess. they were both my friends.

Call the Burlington Police Department 802-658-2704 and request a copy of the Affidavit against Carney. Seriously, check into it, the computer forensic unit at that department is one of the best in New England, do you really think they would charge her if they didn't have proof "Beyond a Reasonable Doubt"?

I guess anyone can make up a name and email address here... what fun! I don't think "Brian McGrath" got the joke from the first comment... that was a joker showing that you can make it look like an email is coming from anyone! Since "Brian" believed it, it kinda shows you how easy it is to do this to someone. If Bess didn't do it, then she should plead not guilty and state her case. If Bess did it, she should own up to it, take responsibility, and begin to make amends. Sometimes people get so deep into a lie that they don't feel like they can get out. The truth is the only cure.

What I can't seem to understand is that if Jeanne is the innocent bystander in all if this: 1) Why she is not being supportive of her friend and assisting with the investigation to determine if there are others involved (when she was summarily fired from KSV less than a year ago it was in fact Bess who went to bat for her against senior management); and 2) Why she is the only one who has benefited monetarily from this entire situation. Whether or not Jeanne was involved she has certainly proved herself to be opportunistic at others expense. Further adding insult to injury, why has Jeanne taken the time to post a slanderous comment on the discussion board for the Computer Crime Research Center?
