Russian hacker arrested

Officers of Department K of the Russian criminal police arrested a 20-year-old Tver resident during investigation. He worked as a network administrator with one of Tver companies. Gennadiy Pereverzev, Chief Information and Public Officer of the department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Tver region, Russia, colonel of police, told REGNUM information agency that a person unknown committed illegal access to computer information.
Since June till August, 2004, someone accessed and stole information on parameters of the Internet access stored at the computer of Medexpress company. A criminal case was instigated in violation of article 272 of the Russian Federation "Unlawful access to computer information". The suspect gave a written undertaking not to leave the place of his living.
During search police found some programs written by suspect himself on his PC. At present, law enforcement officers are to decide whether to call him to account in violation of article 165 "Causing pecuniary damage by way of fraud or abuse of trust." The details of the case are not disclosed in the interests of investigation.
Officers develop possibility of hacker's implication in other similar crimes. 30 similar crimes were revealed in Tver region in 2004, Gennadiy Pereverzev told.
