A Christchurch scientist has been fined in connection with last month's nationwide Internet child pornography bust.

Michael Harris submitted his credit card and email details to various pornography sites and was traced by US authorities in 2003.

A computer was seized when police searched the 45-year-old's house earlier this year as a part of a Department of Internal Affairs investigation.

Images of girls aged between 10 and 12 were discovered on it.

His lawyer acknowledged it was an addiction his client had faced for a number of years and he is now seeking therapy.

Harris was fined $750 and ordered to pay court costs.
